 The proportion of water in the human body at the moment of birth is 77 %. But with ageing it looses it water content. In childhood it is 64% in men and 53% in women. This falls to only 54% in men and 46% in women during their lives.

This decrease of water in the human body is not only caused by an increase in fat tissue but also by a loss of ability of cells to retain water. This results in the separation of crystalloids and biological conglomerates from water in bodily fluids, as a result of reduced colloid capacity of bodily fluids.

Aged cells have about 15% less water content on average than young cells and an increased amount of biological waste in cytoplasm and therefore increased viscosity.
